Wanton noodles - Mak's Noodles vs Tsim Chai Kee

I love a bowl of good wanton noodles when in Hong Kong. And one of the best places to sample this dish is Mak's Noodles on Wellington Street in Central.

This is their famous 细蓉 (Cantonese: sai yung), which simply refers to a small bowl of wanton noodles. The springy noodles, coupled with tasty soup and fresh shrimp dumplings, make for a delicious snack.

On one visit, I also tried this dry version of the noodles...and regretted it tremendously. There was fish roe and the whole dish smelt terribly fishy. It was also very salty. I'd say stick to the soup noodles.

Critics find Mak's noodles pricey (it's just under HK$30 from what I remember), and prefer Tsim Chai Kee directly across the road.

Compared to Mak's, the wanton noodles here is indeed double the size and half the price. However, I find the wantons a tad too salty.

Between the two, Mak's Noodles is, without a doubt, still my choice.
