One of the first things I do when I touch down in Hong Kong is to buy a local sim card. My sim card of choice has been the "Discover Hong Kong Tourist Sim Card", pushed out by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) together with telco PCCW.
You can choose between the 5-day and 8-day versions, depending on your length of stay. I usually buy the sim card from the 7-Eleven at the arrival hall of the airport. But should it be out of stock, you can always get it from other 7-Eleven, Circle K or VanGO convenience stores all over Hong Kong, from PCCW stops, or from HKTB's visitor centre.
To activate the sim card, you just need to turn off your mobile phone, insert the card, then turn on your phone again. You should then get automatically connected to the PCCW network and receive this activation confirmation SMS. It's really easy and hassle-free.
I've used this sim card a couple of times and have no complaints with the network or data speed. So far so good!
